2nd Amendment
Let me state unequivocally, the 2nd Amendment clearly protects the right of individuals to keep and bear firearms. It has been an honor to stand with those who defend our 2nd Amendment rights as individuals in Nevada. As a former Nevada State Senator, and a current concealed weapons permit holder, I worked hard to not only speak out for the rights of individuals to own firearms, but I have worked to protect those rights. This is why in both of my races and in my service, I consistently earned an “A” from the National Rifle Association.
Some politicians prefer to pander to Westerners by expressing their support for hunting and sport shooting when campaigning for the support of gun owners. They talk as if it is some right relegated to wild western cowboys out in the hinterlands of the frontier west. To me, our 2nd Amendment is much more than that. It is a freedom to own firearms for personal protection – on top of hunting and sport shooting. And, if you are an American citizen, you have a lawful right to own and possess firearms no matter if you are in Nevada, New York or Washington, DC.
As your United States Senator, I will monitor all legislation in Congress to ensure that no bills violate our Constitutional Rights as lawful citizens to own and possess firearms – without government-imposed, illegal restrictions. In addition, I will not support activist judges to the federal bench who have shown any willingness in previous statements or rulings to tamper with our 2nd Amendment rights. And, finally, I will be eager to join my pro-2nd Amendment colleagues in the Senate to file friend-of-the-court briefs in court cases dealing with our 2nd Amendment right protections.
Sue Lowden and all of the Republican primary candidates were asked at a recent candidate forum to post their NRA questionnaires from this and previous campaigns on their web page. To adhere to this request, here is Sue Lowden’s 1996 NRA candidate questionnaire that earned her a second NRA endorsement. Here is Sue’s 2010 NRA candidate questionnaire, detailing her staunch support of Americans’ 2nd Amendent rights. And here is Sue Lowden 2010 Grade Letter, declaring her “A” rating from NRA for being solidly pro-gun and a strong supporter for NRA positions on 2nd Amendment issues.
